Erté, with his Slavic genius and inspired by Persian and Indian miniatures of the 16th century, played a decisive role in defining theatre costume style as well as the Art Deco style. His body of work is estimated at approximately 25,000 drawings. Erté died in 1990 at the age of 98, after a long and prestigious international career.
